Community Involvement

Peter is Senior Counsel to Larlee Rosenberg, Barristers and Solicitors, having served as a senior founding partner of the firm until the end of 2020.  Peter has practiced Canadian immigration law since 1986, and has developed a solid understanding of the Canadian immigration system, as well as the needs of his clients.  Peter’s focus is on enforcement areas, dealing with Canada Border Services Agency and Citizenship and Immigration on behalf of clients.  Peter regularly represents clients on appeal before the Immigration Appeal Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board and those who are subject to deportation or other enforcement proceedings, including loss of status for non-compliance with residency obligations.

  • Advocates on behalf of clients under enforcement proceedings or where family class sponsors appeal the refusal of applications by family members; over 115 reported decisions before the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Court, the vast majority of which are successfully resolved.
  • Routinely represents permanent residents requiring renewal of Permanent Resident cards and advocates on behalf of those clients who are required to appeal a loss of status to the Immigration and Refugee Board.
  • Assists applicants for immigration to Canada under various programs including Skilled Worker Class, Canada Experience Class, Provincial Nominee Programs, Family Class including spousal sponsorship, In-Canada Spousal Class, Humanitarian and Compassionate categories.
  • Represents international shipping companies in the relocation of staff and operations to Canada, following a lobby effort to amend the Income Tax Act allowing for the establishment of management operations in Canada.
  • Frequently assists refugee claimants in obtaining Permanent Resident Status.
  • Regularly liaises with Canada Border Services Agency and Citizenship and Immigration Canada to resolve issues affecting client status.
  • Locates and arranges for the release of clients detained by CBSA.
