Associate counsel Lorne Waldman successfully represented Zunera Ishaq in the Federal Court of Appeal. Ishaq refused to remove her face covering at citizenship ceremony for religious reasons. The Federal Court agreed with her and ordered the government to change its policy banning face coverings. The government appealed this decision. The Federal Court of appeal dismissed the appeal a day after the hearing in order to enable Ushaq to be sworn in quickly so she can participate in Canada’s October 16, 2015 national election.

Peter Larlee, with the assistance of Will Tao, was successful in Federal Court by overturning an exclusion order made against our client by a CBSA Port of Entry officer. The decision was released on 3 September 2015.

Steven Meurrens has received consent from the Ministry of Employment and Social Development that its decision to refuse a Labour Market Impact Assessment for a local restaurant was unreasonable, and the refusal has been set aside. This was Larlee Rosenberg’s first judicial review application of an ESDC decision to refuse a LMIA.
